| Matakana Pictures Exhibitions Artists | Geoff Short studied photography at the Elam School of Fine Art, University of Auckland from 1980 to 1982. After a six month stint (on the late, lamented Government Project Employment Scheme) as a documentary photographer for the Waikato Art Museum, he was employed at Real Pictures in Auckland. Starting as a photographic technician, he later became manager of Real Pictures’ gallery operation. |
Solstice: 4.June - 6.August 2005 Untitled Effigies. Photographs by Geoffrey H. Short With the effigies series I am interested in human forms, or rather, representations of human forms, which are as simple, humble and unadorned as I could find. I quickly realised that the smaller the object, the simpler the form. By photographing them with large format film and printing them on a large scale, the effigies take on a sculptural quality which I enjoy. |
