| Matakana Pictures Exhibitions Artists | Wayne Barrar was born in Christchurch in 1957. His photography has been regularly exhibited in New Zealand as well as galleries and art museums in USA, Norway and Canada. Most recently his work has been included in Prospect 2004, Wellington City Gallery and Toi Te Papa, Art of the Nation at Te Papa, Museum of New Zealand. His current project investigates the commodification and adaptation of underground space. Work from this project has been shown in part in a number of NZ galleries and will be exhibited and published in the US in 2005. He has been awarded a number of international artist residencies and received Arts Council grants in 1991 and 2002. His work is held in most major New Zealand public gallery collections and a survey book of his work Shifting Nature, was published by the University of Otago Press in 2001. Currently living in Wellington, he is a senior lecturer at the School of Fine Arts, Massey University. |
